Labarque Scientific Discoveries

Geology: Rocks change color in the water due to the decomposing organic material in the water.

Human Impact: A few sandbags to stop erosion, that’s about it.

Chemistry: High nitrates in the soil, medium potassium, phosphorus was low. Runoff agriculture or animal urinated there. They also discovered that there were low nitrates is best for plants.

Water was 5 ppm, everything looked normal.

Meteorology: Either side of the bridge temperature different. Top of bridge was cooler than under the bridge.

Zoology: box turtle, frogs, tadpoles and minnows, butterflies, lots of insects, wolfspider, many different fish.

Botany: Trees grow fast and take over environments killing of other trees. Eastern Prickly pear

Data Analysis: Upstream very little water chemicals, medium amount of nitrates in the hill run of from fertilizers.
