Water Chemistry

This site study's water chemistry might have been slightly effected by the fact that we paddled through the water to get here. We most likely stirred up dirt, grime, and mud on our trek to the final destination. Though, the tests ended up being successful.
Soil Chemistry

Soil Chemistry was easier to test than water chemistry for this particular site study. We found the nitrates as low, potassium was low, phosphorus was medium. These recordings were all relatively normal.
Butterflies

We saw many monarch butterflies during this site study. It brought back many memories of fifth grade when we were doing our monarch butterfly theme.
Asian Carp

"Once we were closer to each other, I thought Julien had thrown a mud ball at me. Turns our that a asian carp had jumped on me!" Megan Nguyen She was a human impact scientist and was in the water to check out the fence and why it was there. We all know that as eighth graders it is in our job description to be silly, so as Julien was getting ready to pelt Megan with a mud ball she freaked out, scaring the fish in the process. Then as Lillian was watching from the side of the pond reported, she saw the carp jump out of the water and hit her knee. Megan's only critique of the whole 'episode' was to have a sign on the fence: Beware of Flying Fish!
Kayaks

Before we could do our site study, we had to get to it! Riverland's was across a lake and we had to kayak to get there. Kayaking is a fun and tiring form of transportation. We had a lively time paddling across the river, avoiding asian carp, and having mini splashing wars between canoes and kayaks.
Insects

We encountered more than just a few insects on our various trips, on this site study especially. The weather conditions were just muggy enough to be the perfect condition for bugs to thrive. We saw many grasshoppers, butterflies, and many other creepy crawlies that were unidentified.
Trash and Fence

Trash and fences are not necessary but still included in this site. It was easily worked around, but still was a bummer for the animals that inhabited this place because now the land isn't completely natural.
Flowers

We encountered many yellow flowers
Cacti

Cacti are part of the Cactaceae family. There area about 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. Cactus are found in habitats that experience some drought. They range in all shapes and sizes.
Journal Quote
“In the pond, there were these groups of fences in the water. They were either keeping in something or keeping out something. When I first saw the fences, there were Asian Carp jumping all around it.”
